Daisy was such a good dog, and it broke my wife and I’s hearts when she got hit by that car. Jessica wanted me to bury her in the woods beyond our property, but I wouldn’t. I told her there was a superstition that if you bury something there, it doesn’t stay dead. That made her want to bury Daisy there all the more. So one night later, after I was asleep, Jessica took Daisy out to the pet cemetery and laid her to rest. But Daisy didn’t rest long. Turns out, she did come back, but not in the way I was expecting. I woke up that next morning to her licking my face like she used to do. I went to push her off, but realized it was my wife, her tongue lolling out of her mouth and smiling happily at me. Then she barked at me. When she did, she seemed to come to her senses. She covered her mouth with her hand to make herself stop barking, then said, “I…I don’t know what’s the matter with me?” She got down on all fours and went to go get a drink from Daisy’s water dish. Over the next few days, we learned that the dog’s soul fused with my wife’s. Sometimes Daisy was in control, sometimes Jessica, but most of the time, it’s a blend. That’s why Jessica can’t stop buying leashes, begging me for walks, and giving me puppy dog eyes till I mount her.
